BrainsCAN postdoctoral scholar award at The Brain and Mind Institute at Western University, Canada.
Dr. Jessica Grahn is soliciting postdoctoral applicants to her university's prestigious CFREF-BrainsCAN postdoctoral scholar award. The Music and Neuroscience lab explores the links between music, rhythm, and movement using neuroscientific methods and various populations (e.g., healthy adults, neurological patient populations, non-human primates).
The post-holder will play a key role in neuroimaging and possibly neuropsychological patient investigations of rhythm, timing, and music. A background in cognitive neuroscience or experimental psychology and expertise in fMRI, EEG, TMS/tDCS, or neuropsychological patient testing is preferred, but not required. Comfort with computer programming (e.g., Matlab) would be helpful. No musical background is necessary. The successful applicant will enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary team and be able to mentor members of the lab.
For further details on Dr. Grahn’s research, see www.jessicagrahn.com. To learn more about The Brain and Mind Institute, please visit www.uwo.ca/bmi. In addition to excellent MRI infrastructure, the Institute has TMS, tDCS, EEG/EMG, motion capture, sleep-monitoring facilities, and gait-monitoring facilities.
Dr.Grahn and the applicant will develop the proposal together, perhaps in conjunction with other labs at the University of Western Ontario. Please contact Dr. Grahn in the first instance about developing an application (jgrahn@uwo.ca). To apply, please send a detailed CV and cover letter explaining why the lab's research interests you and how your skills and abilities are suitable. Send these items to Dr. Grahn (jgrahn@uwo.ca) with the subject line “Music & Neuroscience PDF”. The deadline is approaching quickly. In brief, applicants must be no more than 6 years post-PhD, and the salaries are highly competitive (55-70K per year, CDN, with additional benefits). The proposed research should fit within the broad BrainsCAN remit (link below), which is loosely about research that will contribute to the assessment of, interventions for, and knowledge about cognitive disorders.
The post will begin in 2020.
